The rocky bed of the Vltava between Loučovice and Vyšší Brod usually contains very little water, the reason being that water is led through an underground canal from Lipno dam lake to the Lipno II regulating lake near Vyšší Brod. Water exists here only when it is released from the dam lake. On the occasion of water sports competitions it appears in an exceptionally large amount.
